In-Car Video System given to Police Department

In September, 1997 the Park Ridge Citizens Patrol gave the Park Ridge Police Department a check for $4,495 to purchase an in-car video camera system for installation in one squad car.

The system consists of a video camera, recorder, monitor, wireless microphone and control mechanism to allow an audio and video recording to be made of traffic stops, chases, field sobriety tests and more. The video system will also be used to train newer officers and critique current practices.

The check was presented to Mayor Ronald W. Wietecha and Director of Public Safety Robert R. Colangelo at a regular meeting of the Park Ridge City Council. All of the money donated came from Citizen Patrol member contributions.

In his letter accepting the gift Colangelo said, "The gift that the group made only convinces me further of the unique and wonderful bond that exists between the Patrol and the Police Department".
